Que mis labios te nombren (2006)
“Que mis labios te nombren” (May my lips say your name) is a journey into Jaramar’s personal history in which she takes some of the songs she grew up with, the ones she learned from her grandmother, her father, her friends. It is a collection of Mexican traditional and popular songs, some older than others, some better known than others, through which she continues her search for her history and her roots. It is a project that carries on the musical fusion or “mestizaje” that has distinguished her recent works. It is also a search for personal expression in which Jaramar and her team take different multicultural elements as their own in order to achieve an original artistic language that reflects the different roads they have travelled. The repertoire includes songs from Veracruz, Jalisco, Guerrero, Yucatán, the north of Mexico and also songs from the great Mexican composers Agustín Lara and Consuelo Velázquez. “Que mis labios te nombren” is a contemporary artistic product but with a strong connection with tradition. It sounds like Mexico, but also very much like Jaramar.
